Glow From Within

Whether you are a mom with young kids, a middle-aged woman, or a teen, my easy 1-2-3 plan will have you glowing from the inside out!

Believe it or not, your skin reveals a lot about you. When it glows it hints at all of the healthy habits you’ve incorporated into your life. Essentially, you become a walking advertisement for a healthy lifestyle, whether it's well managed stress, lots of garden-fresh meals, restorative nights of sleep, endorphin-boosting workouts, or ample water intake.

Glowing skin has everything to do with a healthy lifestyle and very little to do with piling on products.

My three-step plan is designed to transform your skin from the inside out and starts with your diet, then your ideal skin care routine, and finishes with a light touch of makeup to enhance your natural beauty.

1. Inside Out

Drinking enough water often has one the biggest impacts on my client’s complexion. How much is enough? Half your body weight in ounces is a good rule of thumb.

Additionally, you want to cut out the processed, sweetened foods. Did you know that sugar gives you wrinkles and steals your beauty nutrients? Instead, focus on nutrient-rich foods that fuel your body and nourish your skin. For example, avocados and sweet potatoes support youthful, glowing skin, pears help prevent fine lines and wrinkles, while bananas and celery diminish under eye circles!

2. Ideal Skin Care Routine

Most importantly you want to be sure that your skin care products do not contain harmful ingredients! It’s been over 75 years since regulations have been passed in the skin care industry. So you need to be not only an educated consumer but also your own advocate.

It’s time to let go of the notion that safer skin care products aren’t as effective. While that’s true in many cases, there is one notable exception in the company called Beautycounter.

Some common ingredients to avoid that Beautycounter never uses are parabens, retinol, formaldehyde, oxybenzone, fragrance, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium laurel sulfate, triclosan, phthalates, benzophenone, and resorcinol.

Be sure to wash your face every evening with a gentle cleanser that removes impurities while hydrating, rather then drying out your skin. Hydrated skin stays tight and glows. Follow up with additional hydration, including a face oil and moisturizer. A good face oil quickly nourishes the skin with antioxidants and vitamins, minus the grease. This nighttime routine is a simple two step process! In the morning, splash your face with cold water before you begin your beauty routine, if you have one.

3. Lighten and Brighten

Prep your skin with a rosewater spray. This is a wonderful toner, refresher, and hydrator. Be sure your rosewater spray is free of added fragrance. Next, apply your daytime moisturizer. For some, that’s it and we’re out the door. If you choose to add some color, lighten up your foundation in the summer with a tinted moisturizer. Then, add some subtle definition. A defined eyebrow opens and lifts the face in a very natural way. As much as we comb, pluck and wax these strips, let’s show them off! Fill them in to appear thick and natural, yet polished. Be sure your brow pencil is free of aluminum! Then smudge on a light blush and dab lips with a splash of color. Make sure your lip products are free of lead (ingredient list will not specify lead, so do your research!).
